Round 11 Doutta's Away

Round 11 Pascoe Vale 10.8 86 def Essendon Doutta Stars 6.7 43

In very trying conditions which saw the reserves come off the ground due to hail, the boys worked hard to gain the win. The ground was very muddy and slippery due to the heavy downpours during the week and the wind was strong to the Cooper st end.

We kicked into the wind in the first quarter and had to work hard to run and carry the ball. We did this successfully a couple of times and got the ball out the back to kick three goals to zero in the first quarter. All this built around our attack on the ball, willingness to pressure the ball carrier and strength in linking up with our run. Jacob Polizzi, Nick Mellington and Michael Ross gave us drive through the middle and the back six stood up under pressure.

Although we didn’t capitalise with the wind in the second quarter we increased our lead at half time too 29 points. The boys were encouraged to continue to push on and reminded that the next quarter would determine the game. In the third to Doutta’s credit they took their chances and kicked some great goals from the boundary to close the margin to 3 points at three quarter time. The boys were reminded that they needed to remain calm, use the ball and press up when the ball went inside 50.

In the last quarter we controlled the ball position and kept the ball inside our half for much of the quarter. We kicked 3 goals and 4 points and kept them goalless which was pleasing. In very trying conditions all day, where most players from both side were happy to get off the ground we were happy with the display. Blakemore, Polizzi, Mellington, Stredwick all were good around the ball and Matty Watson bobbed up with four of the ten goals.

Good job
