Pascoe Vale announce changes heading into 2019

Pascoe Vale Football Club has announced changes to its approach to coaching for the 2019 season. Following a solid performance this season, that saw the Panthers finish fifth and unlucky to miss out on finals, there has been a decision to move away from the co-coaching model that saw Adam Contessa and Kyle Hardingham come together to steer the side, and return to a traditional Senior Coach approach.

Stuart Mitchell | Senior Football Director

"Both Adam and Kyle have made an outstanding contribution over the last few seasons and leave the Club in best position it has been in since promotion to the Premier Division. The impact that they have had in coaching, mentoring and leading our playing group has been immense. Our decision to look to a different coaching model and draw on fresh thinking for 2019 has not been made lightly and following a rigorous review process.

Adam and Kyle are both popular members of our club and the Pascoe Vale Community. We know that they will be an asset to other clubs in the future and wish them all the best in seasons to come. Adam will remain involved in the club through our junior program with his sons, Billy and Sam, and we are delighted that he will still be a member of our community."

In 2019, Pascoe Vale will be joined by new senior coach, Digby Morrell. Digby played 72 AFL games with the Kangaroos and Carlton from 2001 to 2005. An experienced coach, he spent five years at Strathmore, leading the side to a flag in 2011 and another unbeaten year in 2012 to get pipped in one of Premier Divisions historic Grand Final battles against Greenvale, then coached West Coburg to a Division 1 premiership in 2014. He leaves local rival West Coburg to join the Panthers. Digby has a special interest in helping the club develop it's junior program and ensuring the club provides a positive pathway for the youth to progress into the senior ranks in the years to come.

Digby Morell | Head Senior Coach PVFC

"I’m excited to build on Adam and Kyle's work, continue to develop the skill set of the group (both young and old). The outgoing coaching group already established some key elements on and off the field to provide the best environment for our playing group to be the best it can in 2019. Bring on the hard work as that’s the backbone to success."

The Pascoe Vale sporting club community is excited to offer a warm welcome to Digby, his wife Amanda and three children Jamison, Montana and Saige.
